Video Performance

Here's my video. Sorry it has no sound but I didn't like all the chatting & other noise that was present.

Un Chien Andalou

This was by far the weirdest short film I have ever seen. All the scenes didn't seem like they made sense or even went together. At the end of it I will be honest and say that I was totally confused by what I had just seen.
But it made me think that even though it doesn't make sense that's okay, not everything has to make sense. It forced the viewer to see each scene as it was and not connecting as a whole and appreciate this particular technique.

Orlan

Orlan's performances are viewed with a touch of awkwardness and disgust. Most would wonder why she would subject herself to such surgery all in the name of art. But if you think about it you see the exact same thing on show's such as Dr. 90210. How is what she's done and what's being done on that show any different? Is it because those people are not wide awake or 'participating' in the actual surgery? Orlan is de-contextualizing plastic surgery as a whole and saying look there is nothing saying that this is not a type of art form. It is a performance art that is very powerful and should not be overlooked.

My Flip Book Project

It's kind of rustic but I like how it looks.

Thoughts on the newly introduced iPad....

Let me just start by saying I don't completely hate the ipad....it just feels almost like a waste of technology. After watching the video for it on apple.com, I must say all I see is an iphone/itouch on steroids. Don't get me wrong it would be a nice gadget to own but I probably wouldn't use it as much as I do my itouch or macbook.

Yes the convenience of just touching the button like an iphone to turn it on & have the web literally at your finger tips is a great concept. But is it really necessary?

I'm looking at this from a designer's standpoint.
With a wide touch screen like that the versatility and endless possibilities it offers, would be perfect for graphic designers & other digital artists. The necessity for a drawing pad would become obselete and the need to have both a computer & pad an inconvenience. A stylus would be a nice touch to it for even greater control.

I have this strange feeling & I hate to say it but....this maybe be one of apple's products that just falls short of glory.

Apple Tablet

So a portable tablet isn't a new concept to the computing world to say the least. The fact that apple is now going to start marketing one is taking it to a whole new level. A tablet with a stylus would be a graphic designer's dream come true...apple technology and graphics with a drawing pad all in one.
The reading says Arrington's concept of the tablet was one of 2009's top 10 most brilliant gadgets. So combine that with apple design & software and you could possibly have a winning product for 2010. Arrington has not even seen the product but knows instinctively that it's going to be a great product. And Jobs has made a wise decision in embarking on this new line to apple.
After its unveiling 27th Jan. I'll see what I really think then...

Class feelings & artistic style

Coming into this class I knew it wasn't going to be a traditional art course. I expect this class to help me grow and expand as an artist. And to teach me that it's ok to experiment with my art.
I tend to keep my art to a simple clean design. Sometimes I can be a little restricted in my approach not leaving much room for error. I'm hoping this class will help me to free myself of that approach and help me be more free artistically.
